Anything, whether you are writing for a class or a personal project. We commonly help with resumes, applications, personal statements, critical essays, research papers, and even creative writing projects. We receive specialized training with English 150 papers.
Actually, it's best to come in long before you have a finished paper, but we can help at any stage: we would be happy to help you brainstorm if you are struggling with how to start. Come with a draft, an outline, or even just an idea, just make sure you come in before the day the paper is due.
Our goal is to make overall better writers, so writing tutors focus on "global" issues like argumentation, organization, content, and voice. We may point out patterns of errors and suggest a grammar tutorial. Even grammar tutors cannot "edit" your paper, but they can point out patterns of grammatical errors and explain the rules behind these errors. If you are concerned about grammar, see the grammar tutorial page.
Yes. Start by looking at our handouts for the citation style you are using, located online or at the center. The handouts will give you the basics of citation styles. If you have more specific questions on citation, you can come in and use our style manuals or ask a tutor for help.
Our handouts are helpful references available online or in the center. They cover grammar and punctuation, reference styles, instructions for writing certain types of assignments, and general tips on composition. We also have books on writing, copies of style guides, and other reference materials.
